Poster for
Sustainable Rhymes, in Bollywood Climes - “Consume karo, kam kam kam...”
Elective Course at NID Ahmedabad
Keywords : Reuse, Reduce, Refuse

Course Objective - To introduce the idea and necessity of Sustainability in the world today, to the students. To make the students appreciate the method and madness of Bollywood song & dance music. To make students understand how mainstream entertainment devices like Bollywood song & dance music can be used as a tool to spread a socially desirable idea like Sustainability.
Deliverables - A 5 minutes Bollywood style music video, extolling the need for and virtues of a sustainable world.
For the above given objective, the initial idea started from developing a kitsch-y approach to music, stardom and message - what's more dramatic than the primetime Hindi news channel?
But the approach seems a bit busy on the whole, and involves significant reading on the public's part.
The second idea involved toying around with the idea of catchiness of Bollywood songs, and the repeat factor of Bollywood hits (like Ek Do Teen) which themselves have been re-used and recycled a number of times. Various cutouts of people performing the song and looking up to the title (in the iconic dance pose from the song) were laid together.
Finally, favouring a less kitsch appeal, while still trying to retain the Bollywood-ian essence, a number of designs with a circle ring of RRR arrows were made, with cutouts from 3 Bollywood songs.
After redrawing the arrows and arranging for a perfect circle, and fine-tuning the text placement, the following poster was finalised.
